New Archbishop of Sydney

Reform Ireland welcomes the news that Canon Peter Jensen has been appointed Archbishop of Sydney, and would wish to assure him of our prayerful support and continued interest in his ministry.

As Principal of Moore Theological College, Dr. Jensen has built upon previous work in providing a training course combining academic excellence with sound biblical instruction and a concern for the lost. We note that during his time as Principal the student body at Moore has increased from 142 to 241, making it one of the largest Anglican theological seminaries in the world.

The reputation of Peter Jensen is international, and evangelicals in Ireland were delighted to welcome him to speak at a day conference held in the Church of Ireland Theological College last year, where his wide grasp of contemporary scholarship, his warm pastoral heart and delightful sense of humour were much in evidence.

As Canon Jensen moves on to this new sphere of ministry, we trust that he will continue to provide vision and inspiration in the task of making Christ and his Gospel better known to a lost world. This is a great time of opportunity for the diocese of Sydney, and we pray that the initiative and leadership received from their new archbishop would be an example and pattern for others also, in Ireland and throughout the Anglican Communion.
